Craftcation 2013

Hey guys! I hope you all had a wonderful and safe St. Patrick's Day! Today I want to write a quick post to tell you about Craftcation! If you haven't heard of Craftcation, it's a crafy conference that happens here in our hometown of Ventura, California!

Craftcation Conference - Craft Convention and Small Business Conference

Craftcation is a four-day indie business and DIY conference featuring lectures and DIY workshops with leading industry professionals on art, craft, and food-centered small businesses, taking place this weekend. Craftcation features more than 50 workshops, lectures, and events!

If you are going this weekend, look for our ad in the brochure, and maybe a little goody! Also, if you are taking the Beer Tasting and Crochet Workshop (which sounds like way too much fun!) your supplies will be courtesy of us at Anacapa Fine Yarns!

Unfortunately, Craftcation is sold out for this year, but go check out their website and find out how you can find out more about next year's conference!

Knit, Swirl! Trunk Show

Hi everyone! If you haven't already heard, we have a trunk show in the shop right now of samples from Sandra McIver's wonderful new book, Knit, Swirl! Anne is teaching a Knit Swirl class (stay tuned to the end of the post for more details), and it has been so very popular!

Here are the samples we have in the shop right now of what Cat Bordhi calls the "Miracle Sweater"

"Strata-Sphere":

"Winter Waves":

"Golden Glow":

"Coat of Many Colors":

"Sheer Beauty":

Stop by the shop soon to check these out, we will have them until the 24th of March. If you are interested in taking a class on how to knit a Knit Swirl sweater, the next open class starts in May and will run through the end of July. Give us a call for more info and to save your spot.

Happy Knitting!

Easy as Pie Blanket

Just the other day the newest issue of Knitty went live at Knitty.com, and there are a ton of cute, fun, and free patterns this month! My favorite is the Easy as Pie Blanket, check it out:

This blanket is designed by OneHandKnits, and I just think it looks like so much fun to knit! The yarn used is the wonderful Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo DK, one of our favorites! We have a lot of colors to choose from, and even more on the way. Here's my picks for the color scheme I would use:

Dyeing with Food Color, part five

We had a great time on Saturday dyeing yarn. I wanted to share one of my student's successful results; here's Marsha's yarn -
The wonderful surprises that can emerge from your dye pot.
You can see that she was dyeing over a peachy, tan color (a great way to save a less than lovable shade of a wonderful yarn).
Here we are on the final rinse (plus Synthrapol).
Thanks for the pics, Karin. Thanks for coming to play, Julie and Marsha.
Happy Needling,
Anne

Dyeing with Food Coloring, part four

Here is my fourth project from my stash of hand dyed yarn. This project represents how  you could plan your stripes to stretch over an entire project. The pattern is Dipped in a Bit of Lace Cowl by Danielle Romanetti. The yarn is Manos Del Uruguay Rittenhouse in a light tan color (you can see the original color in one of the stripes).

Tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 2, join me for a class in Dyeing with Food Coloring @ 12 pm. It is going to be fun and you will leave with a unique addition to your stash.

Happy Needling,
Anne
