Yarn Highlight: Juniper Moon Farms "Moonshine"

Hi Everyone! Today I want to talk about one of our new favorite yarns here at Anacapa, Juniper Moon Farms "Moonshine".

Moonshine is 40% Wool, 40% Alpaca, and 20% Silk. It knits up at a worsted weight gauge of 20 stitches over 4 inches with a US Size 7 needles. This single ply yarn is soft and light, with amazing color saturation and depth! The way the yarn is spun up showcases the color variations, and it knits up as a beautiful semi-solid color.

Moonshine has excellent stitch definition, making it wonderful for cables and other pattern stitches.

One the left you can see a cowl knit in Moonshine. The pattern is the Cocoon Me Cowl by Rose Beck, and our own Terry is teaching a class on that scarf coming up in August. Click here for more info. Lots of Kureyon!

Hi everyone! Just a quick post today to let you know that we got in a lot of one of my favorite yarns, Noro Kureyon from Knitting Fever, Inc! This yarn is so pretty and woolly and I just love it! In fact, one of my upcoming classes features this particular yarn, my Easy Ribbed Fingerless Mitts class on February 27th.

This one is perfect for new knitters, because it's an Intro to Double Pointed Needles! I know they can seem scary if you've never used them, but we will have lots of fun in this class, I promise! All you need is one ball of Kureyon and some size 8 DPNs and we'll be on our way!

This Just In: Golden Fleece Fibers!

We have three lovely new yarns from this small yarn company, who's all about luxury fiber blends and beautiful hand-dyed colorways. We have a lace weight, a fingering weight, and a sport weight, all of which are really nice, I want some of each!

First up we have Nymph:

Nymph is their lace weight, made from 60% Seacell, and 40% Silk. Seacell (made from Seaweed... what??!) is soft and drapey, and this lace weight yarn will knit up into the most gorgeous shawls and scarves and other lace projects.

Second, we have Elektra:

This is their Fingering weight yarn, made with 75% Merino Wool, 20% Nylon, and a little sparkle, how fun is that?! I think I might need to knit myself (or my sister, who loves everything pink and sparkle-y) a pair of socks out of this one!

Last but not least is Atlantis:

Atlantis is a sport weight, 50/50 blend of Merino Wool and Tencel. Tencel is made from wood pulp, and is similar to Rayon in that it has a nice sheen to it, and magnificent drape and softness. I'd love to make something like the Cedar Leaf Shawlette with this awesome yarn.

New from Noro!

We recently received a big shipment of yarns from Noro, the company known for beautiful self-striping yarns! These new spring yarns don't disappoint, it's everything you love about Noro in springtime fiber blends!

First up, we have Kirameki, Noro's new Lace Weight! Can you imagine a big beautiful shawl in one of these lovely colors? Maybe something like Annis? It's 60% Rayon, 25% Nylon, 10% Wool, and 5% Cashmere, so it'll knit up warm, soft, and drapey!

We have new colors of Aya, Noro's cotton, silk, and wool blend. I love this yarn! You can knit up another one of Terry's Over the Helix Cowls with 2 colors!

We also got new colors of Taiyo, another cotton, silk, and wool blend. This would knit up great as a springtime scarf, like the Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf.

Yarn Highlight: Madelinetosh Merino Light

Last Saturday we opened up a box of Madelinetosh Merino Light and our customers dove right in! People were snatching them up so fast, we haden't even taken them out of the box to put them on display or put price tags on them yet! Well now they're all stickered and shelved, and there are so many absolutely AMAZING colors of this stuff! It's a wonderfully soft single ply fingering weight merino, I just love this yarn!

Yarn Highlight: Liberty Wool

We've recently received something new and exciting from Classic Elite Yarns, a beautiful, soft, and machine washable new worsted weight wool called Liberty Wool!

It's so soft and lovely, I love it! I think it would be fantastic for kid's projects, or something for you! There are a couple of really cute patterns that Classic Elite has designed for this yarn that we have available here at the shop with the purchase of this great yarn, and keep checking in the store, because new colors will be coming every month!

Yarn Highlight: Schaefer Yarns: Nancy

This beauty from Schaefer Yarns is called Nancy, and it's 95% Merino Wool, 5% Nylon. They come in lovely variegated colorways, and with 600 yards on one skein, you could make a decent sized project with just one skein! Schaefer has designed a couple of patterns for their yarns that are available here at the shop free with the purchase of the yarn. With one skein, you could make a shawl:

or a "Shrugigan":

or any number of other projects! The thick-thin texture of the yarn knits up really fun and interesting! Stop on by and take a look before they are all gone!

Yarn Highlight: Misti Alpaca

Misti Alpaca creates the most luxuriously soft and squishy alpaca yarns, in amazing colorways! If you've worked with them before, you know how awesome they are! We recently got a shipment from them, check it out! And a computer screen can not do them justice, you just have to feel them...

First up we have Misti Alpaca in lace weight. Imagine a giant shawl or soft scarf in one of these colorways:

Pretty, huh? If multi-colors aren't your deal, look at these tone-on-tone colors of Misti Alpaca Worsted: I want them ALL! The lime green is my favorite!

Yarn Highlight: The Fibre Company!

This just in: The Fibre Company! This yarn brand makes the most geogeous and wonderfully luxuriously soft yarns you can imagine, in lots of beautiful colors! We have Canopy Fingering Weight, Road to China Light, and Terra!

Canopy Fingering is a lovely blend of Baby Alpaca, Merino Wool, and Bamboo. I think it would be great for some heirloom baby garments, or a big lacy shawl!

Road to China Light is a DK weight yarn made of Baby Alpaca, Cashmere, Camel, and Silk. It's unbelievably soft, I wish I could make a giant blanket out of it and hibernate all winter!

Terra is a worsted weight blend of Baby Alpaca, Wool, and Silk, and just like the other two yarns, it is so soft! It's a single ply yarn that looks a little more rustic, but it certainly doesn't feel rustic!

In addition to these beautiful yarns, Fibre Company has a number of great free patterns, which are available here at the shop! You could make an adorable baby sweater with Canopy Fingering, like Lucille or the Fiddlehead Pullover! You could knit a luxurious cowl, like the Alice Cowl, out of Road To China Light, and Terra would knit up nice and warm into The Hiker's Waistcoat, or a cute pair of Lychee Mittens!

Yarn Highlight: Silk Twist and Andes

Popping in to show you a highlight of two of the yummier yarns that came in The Great Shipment this month.

The top left image is a basket of new jewels from Rowan, Silk Twist. Rowan has put out a beautifully styled book full of great garments. We happen to have a version of the cover piece in the store for you to handle, try on, and generally fall in love with.
